NatureKids Kelowna: Extreme Environments – Alkaline Wetlands

We will be learning all about how animals can survive extreme environments. There are many places around the world that you wouldn't think could support life, but somehow do. Undersea vents that have temperatures WAY over boiling, frozen ice in the arctic, and many more! Our local example of an extreme environment is Kathleen Lake, which is an alkaline lake. This means it has a very high concentration of mineral salts dissolved in the water, making it toxic to some species. Yet other species thrive there!
