February 24, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PST

When: Saturday February 24 (Sunday February 25 is our rain check day)  7 pm – 8:30
What: Astronomy with VIU professor (and NatureKids parent!) Greg Arkos.
Where: we will meet at Vancouver Island University campus (500 Fifth street) at building 315.
We will be learning about near space and deep space objects, and hopefully get several different magnifications of the moon and the Orion Nebula (unfortunately most of the planets are only visible in the very early morning hours at this time of year). We will also learn to use binoculars to view space objects and learn to spot some winter constellations.  Of course, all of this is weather permitting, so keep your fingers crossed (if you are the superstitious type)!

Explorer Day Etiquette:

  • Be prepared to HAVE FUN!
  • Pre-registration with your Club Leader is required for most Explorer Days (Friends are welcome if space permits).
  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for passport stamping and organization. Starting times are firm, and Leaders cannot wait for late-comers!
  • Please stay with the Leader and let them know if you are leaving early.
  • Children must always be accompanied by an adult guardian, who is responsible for their behaviour. Children consistently disrupting the experience of others may be asked to leave.
  • Bring appropriate weather gear, sunscreen, snacks, water, and other useful tools like binoculars, sketch books, cameras, and magnifying glasses.
