NatureKids BC is thrilled to be launching its first formal fundraising appeal after 18 years of supporting volunteer-led nature clubs in local communities throughout British Columbia. The inaugural fundraising drive focuses on bringing the benefits of family-time outside together to more residents across BC.
“As a small charity, we rely on the exceptional generosity of a select few foundations and individuals, but we’re looking forward to expanding our community of donors in the months and years ahead,” said Executive Director, Louise Pedersen.
NatureKids BC offers membership at a subsidized rate of $35 annually, which enables families to partake in monthly Explorer Days in their community. Additionally, they receive an annual subscription to the stellar quarterly published NatureWILD and have the option to participate in other incentive-based programs like Passport to Nature and Action Awards.
“Time in nature is an essential part of a healthy childhood, and we’re proud to offer these unique programs thanks to our amazing volunteers and the local nature experts throughout the province,” Pedersen said.
Volunteer Club Leaders Molly Cooperman of Salmon Arm and Megan McMillan of North Okanagan shared their personal experiences in the pieces that will be sent to the NatureKids BC community via mail and email in the days ahead.
The recent study released by Nature Canada further underlines the necessity of organizations like NatureKids BC. It is estimated that around 85% of school-aged children do not meet the targets for sleep, screen time and physical activity.
“We’re proud to promote all the wonderful things kids and their families can discover while getting their vitamin N intake,” Pedersen added.
Funds raised for this year’s appeal will ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of volunteer coordination and membership communications. Updates will be posted on the NatureKids BC website in the weeks ahead.
As a charitable entity, NatureKids BC relies on the generosity of the community to continue its mission to help BC children get outdoors to explore, play, learn about and take action for nature.
