Why YNC?

A growing body of evidence confirms that when children spend time in nature they are healthier, happier, and smarter. Since 2000, through its province wide network of volunteer-led family and school nature clubs, the Young Naturalists’ Club of BC has been leading children to explore and become excited about nature. Outdoor activities such as ponding, mushroom hunting and bird watching invite children and their families to discover the natural treasures of their own region.

Yesterday, when going out in search of humpbacks, we had remarkable sightings of transient killer whales. I've written about these sightings on my blog and provided pictures at the following link.

Humpback Comeback!

Jackie Hildering - North Vancouver Island YNC Leader needs your help!
Project Summary: The Humpback Comeback Project: Help a Community By Protecting Its Threatened Wildlife
Humpback whales, once hunted to the brink of extinction, are starting to make a comeback around Northern Vancouver Island. However, our 7-year volunteer research effort indicates that the threat of entanglement is affecting humpback whales both locally and throughout British Columbia. Help us conduct further research and increase awareness about this threat, to protect the future of these awe-inspiring giants that have become an integral part of the economy, ecology, and culture of our community.
